Plan a sprint

Create a time-boxed sprint, set its goal, and pull in backlog tasks.

A sprint is a focused work cycle where your team commits to a specific set of tasks and a shared goal. Creating one gives you a bounded container for planning, tracking progress, and shipping work together.

You'll set the sprint dates, write a goal the team can rally around, and pull in the backlog tasks you want to tackle this cycle.

Enter the sprint name and confirm the dates. TaskRail defaults to your workspace's two-week cadence.

Name the sprint and confirm the dates — TaskRail defaults to your workspace's two-week cadence.

TaskRail uses your workspace's default cadence (usually two weeks) to set the sprint window, so you can adjust the dates only if your team runs a different rhythm.

Write a sprint goal: a single sentence the whole team can check work against.

A strong sprint goal is one sentence that every team member can use to decide whether a task belongs in this sprint or should wait.

Click Create sprint, then drag backlog tasks into it from any board.

Once the sprint is created, you can drag tasks from your backlog into it across any board — TaskRail moves them automatically and updates their sprint assignment.

What's next

With your sprint created and populated, set team capacity or start assigning tasks to individual members so everyone knows what they're building.

You can also configure notifications so the team gets a reminder when the sprint is about to start or end.
