Create a metric alert

Trigger a notification when a metric crosses a threshold.

You'll set up an alert that watches a metric and notifies you the moment it crosses a threshold you define. Catch problems early — before they become user-facing issues.

Alerts run continuously, checking your metric every 5 minutes, so you stay ahead of unexpected changes.

1

Open Alerts in the sidebar.

Open Alerts in the sidebar.

2

Click New alert.

Click New alert.

3

Set the Metric and Condition; anomaly detection is available instead of manual thresholds.

Pick the metric and the condition — anomaly detection is also available if you'd rather not hand-tune thresholds.

Anomaly detection learns your metric's normal behavior and alerts you to unusual patterns without requiring you to guess at thresholds.

4

Click Create alert; it evaluates every 5 minutes.

Click Create alert — it evaluates every 5 minutes from now on.

Once created, the alert begins evaluating immediately and will notify you each time it triggers.

5

The alert shows Armed; its history records every trigger with a metric snapshot.

The alert shows as Armed in the list — its history records every trigger with a snapshot of the metric.

An Armed alert is active and monitoring. The history tab shows every trigger event along with a snapshot of the metric at that moment, so you can investigate what caused the spike.

What's next

With your alert armed and watching, configure notification channels so the right team members get pinged when it triggers.
