Enable two-factor authentication
Protect your mailbox with an authenticator app.
Two-factor authentication adds a second layer of security to your account by requiring a code from your phone in addition to your password. This makes it much harder for someone to access your mailbox, even if they somehow learn your password.
Open Settings and find the Security section.
Turn on Two-factor authentication.
Two-factor authentication is now active on your account.
Scan the QR code, then enter the 6-digit code.
Your authenticator app will generate a new 6-digit code every 30 seconds — use the current code to verify the setup.
Click Verify and enable, then store your backup codes somewhere safe.
Your backup codes let you sign in if you lose access to your authenticator app. Store them in a secure place you can retrieve later.
What's next
Your account is now protected by two-factor authentication. On your next sign-in, you'll be prompted to enter a code from your authenticator app after entering your password.
